MBA after MBBS

Since joining ISB I have received a lot of queries from other doctors and healthcare professionals about healthcare management, the opportunities for doctors after an MBA and getting into a b-school like ISB. The following is an attempt to write about all that I know on each of the above points. I’ll keep adding stuff here in bits and pieces so its not going to be really organised. Leave me a comment if you want more info and I’ll try and write about it.

Disclaimer: This info is not officially from ISB and is what I understand of the admission procedure here. If after reading this, you don’t get in, don’t blame me!!

Q. What are the opportunities available to doctors after an MBA?
A. After an MBA a doctor could get into one of the following industries:

  • Healthcare services delivery (hospitals, hospital chains)
  • Pharmaceutical companies
  • Biotech companies
  • Healthcare consulting
  • NGOs

The functional areas where you could get in are (by industry):

  • Healthcare services delivery (hospitals, hospital chains)
    • Marketing and customer relations
    • Sales
    • Operations – This is where I’ve got a job now with Apollo Hyderabad
    • Business development
  • Pharmaceutical and biotech companies
    • Marketing and customer relations
    • Sales
    • Operations
    • Business development
    • Licensing
    • Discovery project management and evaluation
    • Medico-marketing

Q. How should I prepare to get into a B-school?
A. I’ll concentrate on how to apply for ISB. These points would generally apply to most US & European B-schools. IIMs is a different ball-game and I suggest talking to a current student or alum from an IIM. Send an email to one of the IIM’s alumni association. I had a pleasant experience there and got a lot of responses.

ISB will look at the following parts of your application to decide whether you fit in or not:

  • Essays
  • Work Experience
  • Recommendations
  • GMAT
  • Interview

Your application will most probably be compared with people from similar backgrounds, for e.g. techies will be compared with other techies and doctors with other doctors.

At the outset let me clarify that GMAT is not the only criteria for admission. Each of the above points will be weighted more or less equally, so concentrate on all of them!

Essays
ISB will ask you to write 4-5 essays as part of your application. The topics vary from year to year so take a look at the application and write. Ensure that there are no spelling or grammatical mistakes and above all be honest. An interviewer can usually find out if you are dishonest! I guess it might be OK to discuss the essay with family and friends, but its definitely not OK to get a professional to write it for you. ISB will definitely find out if its written by a pro.

Work Experience
Here you tell ISB about what you’ve done in your career till now. On the basis of this ISB assesses what skills you possess or have acquired. Tell them all that you have done, don’t be shy, but don’t write anything you have not actually done!

Recommendations
ISB requires you to send 2 recos with your application. According to me the best recos would be from your supervisors/bosses at work. It’s a pretty comprehensive document. Make sure the person who writes the reco knows you well. Don’t try and fudge the reco or fill it up for the recommender! Ask the recommender to fill it up, sign it and give it to you in a sealed envelope, with their signature across the seal.

GMAT
Last, but not the least, the GMAT. ISB’s average GMAT score has been rising and our batch (2007 batch) has an average of 706! If you get anything below 650, then you might wanna retake the exam, unless you have something exceptional in your profile, essay or work experience.

While I was preparing for my MBA admission, I was also taking coaching for CAT. This helped me a lot with the Maths. Then, I took a short course at Kaplan for the GMAT, did some questions and full-length tests, and went and gave the exam. Got decent marks and that was the end of it.

You should also read this excellent article – 10 secrets for getting into a top B-school
I agree with all the points in this article, except point 4. I agree with the part about not rushing your application but not with the part about round 1. I think you should apply for round 1 only, but ensure you start your preparation and application process well in time so that you do not rush the application. This will especially be true for MBBS grads since they might take more time preparing for the maths parts of the exams.

Q. Does ISB consider my MBBS internship as work experience?
A. Yes! (IIMs don’t) Not anymore.

Q. Does ISB consider my 3 years of MD/MS as work experience?
A. Gray area-ISB did not consider it till now, but that seems to be changing. Call or write to the admissions office for clarifications.

Hello Rahul this is bharath here. I thank u for devoting u r time to answer our queries. I completed my internshhip in Oct 2007. Worked for HAL hospital, first aid center for 2 months.Gave my CAT in 2007, got 91 and odd percentile, got a call from Tapmi but could not convert it. Honestly i had prepared for only 2 months for CAT and a day effectively for GD, so no regrets. At present i am working for MARLABS, KPO as an ABSTRACTOR regarding US health insurance. Getting 30+ salary. Working in MARLABS from Jan 15 2008. I am planning to take GMAT in August and then apply for ISB. Will it be adequate to take the test in August. Can I show the work experience in HAL hospital for 2 months, wondering if it is a demerit to work for only 2 months. Kindly reply. Sorry for the trouble.

  2. Dear Dr.Drs\.Rahul,
Hi.I am final year medical student .I found all the posts on this forum very helpful. I am extremely confused about what to do after my MBBS.Please take out some to time to read my slightly long message and give your advise.

My inclination towards is MBA is due to:-
1.Don t like all the mindless cramming associated with medicine , means like I have a green card and with some effort good chance of securing a residency in US which would mean about $50k salary for 5 yrs but after that most prob$150-200K / year with a relatively easy lifestyle. But Not sure if I can push myself for 5 more years since wat I ve observed about myself that I tend to grasp things very quickly but memory very volatile and you know how important retaining facts in medicine are.
2.5 star work environment compared to a hospital
3.My non-med friends from school from whom I was miles ahead academically in school etc getting extremely attractive job packages without putting in much hard work, so one definite reason to do MBA is for the good pay packages if done from a good institute
4.I like the glamorous corporate lifestyle of traveling and trendy living
5.Even engineers etc totally leave their field of study and still successful in investment banking etc.so why can t we
    My apprehensions about MBA are:-

1.It is too general ie any person can do the 2 yr course and I won t be having any edge over a person who is able to sell himself in the market even though I might be better
2.Do I have the aptitude for it?(I am a bit introverted person not too much but not very out going,so not sure if have the personality for an MBA. My English is pretty strong since I read a lot- Scored 30/30 in reading, listening, writing but 26/30 in speaking section of toefl(in case if you have any idea about the test),mental ability pretty good(cleared NTSE in 10th with highest in mental ability in my city),But totally out of touch wid maths since 10th
3.Academic scores 10th-93.6% 12th- 80% MBBS- 56%(too low for admission in a good institute),plus not many extra curriculars after 10th(you know how med colleges are)
4.Have not much idea about scope of MBA(means like I m not much into marketing since not very creative or imaginative)
5.Job satisfaction and demand in the market after a couple of years and opportunities to rise up the ladder?
6.Too stressful and non-settled life of a corporate?
Please use your experience of MBA after MBBS and advise me .There s no need for an immediate reply so plz go through the mail carefully and reply at your ease after analyzing my situation. I ‘ll extremely grateful for thoughts and suggestions.

    Yours sincerely,
    Saurabh Sharma.

-how is my qualification MBBS,DPH,MBA-HR and MHA goin to help me get in to a corporate hospital and with wat salary?
-i am 27 now and hve a 4 yr. old kid and so planning to do a flexi-mode MBA from ICFAI…wel the MHA is only correspondence so tat is not an issue …am lookin forward more for the MBA program
-i thought a combination of Public health,MBA-HR and MHA wud b a good combination…cud u plz give me guidance on this..
-the reason i dont now want to give an entrance was tat it took me a lot of pains studyin for my pre-pg entrance with an infant..and also the final certificate from ICFAI does not mention if it is a full-time or part-time MBA…
-I AM PLANNIN TO DO MBA from ICFAI University, tripura…is it good?if not do u know of colleges from ICFAI which r good…
-cud u plz tel me the difference between ISB and ICFAI Business School(IBS) or they r the same?
-does it really matter the institute from where u do ur MBA for a post-graduate doctor..

    HI! rahul thnks for ur reply but i hve a few doubts;
-the reason i am doin MBA-HR and MHA is tat i think it wud b a good combination with public health…wel MHA is correspondence so tat is not an issue …i am concentratin more on MBA..
-also i hve a 4 yr. old kid .i am 27 now…and had a hard time givin my pre-pg entrance with an infant n so am plannin to take up a flexi-mode MBA-HR from ICFAI University…also the advantage is the university does not mention in the final certification if it is a ful-time or part-time MBA
-how do u think is the qualification of MBBS,DPH(4rm TNMC,NAIR Hospital, mumbai) n MBA,MHA(4rm ICFAI University) for a placement in corporate hospital n wat do u think wud b my salary…wil my 2 yrs. hospital experience of residency in Public health b considered…hve also presented papers in IAPSM conference…
-since dont hve much knowledge abt management cud u help me wid good colleges of ICFAI…WEL THE MAIN OFFICE AT NARIMAN POINT,mumbai says ICFAI University,Tripura …is it good
-how different is ISB from ICFAI Business school(IBS) or they r same..
r students from IBS,Hyderabad also sponsored by ICFAI University,Tripura?IBS ranks 10th in India in b-schools n base is ICFAI..AM CONFUSED BETWEEN this IBS,ISB n ICFAI University.
-the course material is the same for full time n part-time mba n also the certificate does not mention(in ICFAI)…IS PART-TIME MBA SAME AS FLEXI-MODE?
-IF U THINK I SHD SPECIALISE IN SOME OTHER MBA ,N NOT HR PLZ LET ME KNOW…
    THNKS rahul…u r doin a fantastic job!

  7. hi rahul,
    u r cool.
I am MBBS, MD (AIIMS), GMAT score 760.
    I planning for NUS/ISB/Duke.
out of Singapore, USA and India , which country offers the best opportunity for a MBA+doctor, provided u do mba from top school of that country.
I am confused between these countries.
US is in recession, India is still developing- low lifestyle, low salaries. Singapore is ok, ?? what about Hongkong, do u have any information, thanks a lot

Dr. Bharath: I think you have too little work experience to apply to ISB right now. They don’t consider internship as work experience any more. I think you need to work for some more time before applying to ISB.

    Saurabh: Lets take this point-by-point:
    Inclination points:
    1. MBA is not going to have any cramming definitely. If you go abroad, then medicine might still be a good option as they pay well.
    2. The work environment depends on the company you join. Its not necessary that every company will have a 5 star work environment. And what if you end up working in a hospital??!!
    3. I think there is hard work required even for MBAs.
    4. That is probably the worst expectation from a corporate job. Its not all glamorous and trendy!!!
    5. We definitely can.

    Apprehension points:
    1. If you move out of healthcare you don’t have an edge. Otherwise you do.
    2. The aptitude you need is an aptitude for business and management. Don’t look at the exams too much.
    3. Academic scores are pretty decent. You might need to work on the extra-curriculars.
    4. I’ve outlined the various options in the healthcare sector above in my post.
    5. Job satisfaction depends on what you take up and whether you take it up after researching it well. Lots of people take up jobs because of great salaries but then don’t like the jobs.
    6. Stress will definitely be there… Its possible to settle down into a good job.

Anant: You can find out more about ISB at http://www.isb.edu. Symbiosis in Pune is a good college. But why do you look at colleges near you only??

Dr. Dipti: 1. That depends on what you want to do in a hospital – HR or hospital admin?
    2. I think you are doing too many things – you need to focus yourself.
    3. I really don’t know whether ICFAI Tripura is good or not.
    4. ISB and IBS are two different colleges.
    5. The start you get after the MBA will definitely depend on the school you go to.
    6. I’m not sure about the differences between part-time and flexi-mode… i’m hearing about flexi-mode for the first time.

I did my MBBS from UCMS, Delhi and I have not done any PG.

Saket: Healthcare is good in every country. I am not too much of a fan of the US right now, but India and Singapore are great. Haven’t heard too much about Hong Kong healthcare…

  10. Hi Rahul,

I am an Economics grad. Have work ex of 2 yrs+.
    I have 2 questions.
    1) Eligibility to apply is 2 yrs in ISB, do they really consider pple who have work exp of exact 2 yrs? Because i have read that pple with managerial exp and of atleast 3-4 yrs are preferred.?

    2) Regarding letter of Reco, One has to get the comprehensive letter made, or its a part of application that one needs to get filled by the boss?

    Awaiting reply..
    thanks

  12. Hi Rahul,

Next week I am taking up my GMAT, meanwhile I have not yet decided on any B-schools other than ISB and IIM-A to send my GMAT scores and since my final preps for GMAT r going on, I dont have time to research on any foreign B-schools… Just for the sake of reporting the scores (since i can opt to send the scores for 5 B-schools while taking GMAT at no cost), could u let me know 3-4 B-schools including foreign B-schools…? Once i finish my GMAT, i am planning to do research on various schools and if it happens to be the same as I have opted during GMAT for reporting, then I would be saving some money… Could u let me know regarding this please??

  13. 14. it was great to know that you are from ucms. you are doing a great job ,guiding all the medicos who want to go for MBA. i have completed my MBBS from UCMS and currently doing internship. i will be appearing for CAT this year. you know how tough it is to score in ucms , i have only 58% in mbbs. many institute give weightage to your academics. how much it will matter for a good B school or IIM.
i also wanted to know what other thing they look for. does gap year before entering into mbbs matter.
finally you will be delighted to know that many UCites are going for MBA now . i wanted to know from which batch you really were in UCMS.

  15. Dear Rahul,

Thanks for answering my previous Qs. A quick question again. I am now 29 and work exp of 7 years by the time the 2009-10 batch is admitted.have joined Kaplan 2 wks back. Have yet to give GMAT.If I apply it shall be for round 2. Not prepared that well. How many hrs of study required for an average student given that I have barely 3 m in hand? Should I go ahead and apply this year with a score of 650-700 or should i wait and practise and apply with a better score next year? Will my age and experience at that point of time (30, 8yrs) go against my application as at ISB the avg age is 27-28 and work ex is 5yrs?

  16. Dear Dr.Rahul,
Thanks a lot for your detailed reply.Just a couple of questions:-
1.Can you plz tell wat type of work ex you had before applying for ISB?
2.Wat is your current job profile like(plz explain in layman language)
3.Wat is your pay package like(Plz answer only if you feel it’s not too personal!:-))

    July 23, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Kaustubhi: 1. They are going to compare your application with other people with the same background. If the others are way better, they get selected. It seems that these days most applicants have 3-4 years of experience (the average these days is 5 years). So you’re better off applying when you have more experience. However, remember that work experience is not the only thing that counts. If you have great academics or great extra-curricular on your resume you can cover up for the less work-experience.

Shreshta: The question you need to ask is whether you want to help people by being a doctor or by building and running a hospital? If its the first thing then go for your PG, else for an MBA. I’m not sure about what is the entrance process for MHA. Go to the college’s website and you should be able to figure it out. Most colleges will prefer work-experience for MBA. Hope this helps.

Vikram: First question – why are you sending GMAT scores to IIM-A? As far as I know they want CAT scores not GMAT. There are so many b-schools in the world that picking 5 off the top is very difficult. Your choice will need to depend on what you want to do in your career, what work-experience you have, which part of the world you want to study in, etc. The best advise I can give you for this is to get hold of a copy of some ranking. Pick some b-schools from the middle of the bunch – something between 20-50 probably. They should be a safe bet.

Dr. Archana: I’ve not heard of any course in medical tourism yet. I would be happy to help you with your project.

Amit: If it helps I had 59% in my MBBS! Academics will matter in b-schools. But they will also look at other stuff like work-experience and extra-curricular stuff. If you can explain what you did in your gap year and they are satsified with it, it should be OK. I joined UCMS in 1998.

Jyoti: Your age and experience are a PLUS while applying for ISB! If you get a score above 690-700 you should apply. I think 3 months should be enough time to prepare – you might need to put in 3-4 hours of study a day if you are not that good at the english and maths. Take a few mock tests and you should figure out how much you need to study. Start working on your essays and recos side-by-side so that you can crash time.

Saurabh: 1. I worked as an intern in marketing in 2 companies – Eli Lilly & Max Healthcare.
    2. I look after the administrative stuff at the hospital – basically patient services.
    3. Its pretty good is all I’ll say.

  18. thank u somuch sir for replying… actually i wanna build hospitaland then serve the needy… allthe are in my late 30s..nothing very immediate after my studies….for experience in mba… where can we work post mbbs for 2 yrs.. like in which fieldhospitals research or any suggestions sir please… sir after writing the entrance test…willdoctors be compared with other doctors score… or in general with every one… howmany hosp management seats does a verygood b school have

  19. sir hope u saw the news that rural posting to do pg medicine is a must does that hold good for doing mba also… do they consider mba as a post graduate course…

  20. Hi Rahul,

Good work. I am working in UK as a paediatrician with good pay but wants to do MBA as a career change. I will be applying for International B School next year. Please tell me is it worth to do MBA from ISB if I do not get admission in good international B schools. My age is 34. Is age a hindrance in Indian B schools.

  21. Rahul

    July 26, 2008 at 8:43 PM

Shreshta: You can work as a doctor also for the 2 years MBA or take up a job in some company – like insurance, pharma, etc. In ISB atleast doctors will be compared with other doctors, not other people. Most b-schools will not have any hospital management seats though some b-schools, like FMS, etc. have recently started hospital management courses. In that news article I think they meant medical PG courses and not MBA and stuff.

Vinod: It will be a good idea to come to ISB. In ISB age will not be a hindrance. Actually there is a paediatrician from the UK who has just joined ISB! I think his profile is similar to yours.

Hello sir, I am currently doing MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM). There are 3 doctors in our batch, our summer placements procedures will start in sept-oct. Can you provide me any contacts of a HR personal so that we can invite Apollo Healthcare on campus for summers or may be for final placements. Please help.. my email id is dramol.z@gmail.com

Looking forward for your positive reply.. Thank you.

  23. this rural posting clause is the most ridiculous thing i have heard in recent times….

on one hand one year rural must to do pg….and on other just look at stipend….10,000….i mean what do they think a doctor is….do they think a doctor is equivalent to a clerk….

i mean what does the damn govt want….do they want all medicos to opt for suicide as well…..

this will really make all 12th passouts to opt out from medical field….

(which btw is already happening…u must be knowing there was like some 40 % decrease in no of students giving Delhi Pre medical exam this year….definitely top grade students are going to refrain from this medical field…..biology class sections in schools are shrinking beyond imaginations….had recently talked to my biology teacher…..)

but not to worry much on other hand…this clause will not be passed at any condition….going to face same stiff opposition as the previous one….this isn’t china….govt. can’t frame a policy without agreement of people involved….

and the rural clause is surely only for people opting pg in clinical branch (you must have noticed anatomy, biochemistry and one more branch is out of this clause….) so there is no way mba or any other non-medical field comes under its purview…

so don’t worry brothers and sisters….

start preparing to leave the medical field….because thats what our govt. wants from us by even thinking of such rubbish policies…..

  24. Hi Rahul,

kudos for all this gr8 work!!

i completed my mbbs in 2004 from India with all india rank of 103, worked in UK for last 4 years and now doing int. meds residency at new york city for last 2 months with H1b visa….I have future plans to settle in India and after much thought for last 7-8 months, finally came to the conclusion that i have lost the charm to continue in clinical medicine and MBA definitely seems to be my cup of tea……

if I continue the medicine, it will take another 3 years to complete the residency and i have to pursue a further 3 years of fellowship(which r again difficult to get in to), if i wish to come back to India as only residency won’t suffice…thats total of further 6 years in comparison of 1 or 2 years of MBA with the added advantage of early settlement in ur preferred field although with less financial perks..

my question is if i try to get admission in one of the top 10 US/UK business schools like wharton or LBS (although quite difficult), what will be the chances of getting a quick post in Indian Healthcare Management and how much the annual package can be….i don’t have much experience of managerial/administrative work prior to that…and if i wish to completely switch over to finances or marketing in non healthcare fields, will that be possible.

thanks again for ur help. please continue all ur wonderful work…

  25. hello rahul,

I have been working on and off for 2 years in dental clinics and hospitals as a dental surgeon, i have no experience of working as an administrator in a hospital set up. I want to do MBA in hospital management from a good institute. Which are the 5 best institutes for MHM / MHA? Do IIMs offer MHA? Please guide me how to go bout preparing for CAT, GMAT and which are the good coaching institues for its prepration in Delhi? What are the career options after doing an MBA? Do i require to have a 2 years experience of working on an administrative post in a hospital before appearing for CAT/ MAT? Will be eagerly look forward to ur reply! Thanks a jar..

  31. hi rahul, this is d continuation of my previous querry.
1.work experience or a pg degree- which one will ve more weightage to enter a b school.
2.if i choose to do mph will it have d same value as mds as far as enterin a b-scool is concerned?
    3. if i choose to work then, workin as a dentist or working in corporate sector -which’s more advisable to enter a b-school..
and having decided to switch over to another field i think its hight time i decide the right kind of job.. but still i wish to gain work exp in clinicals rather than in corp sector.cos i feel, that after 2 or 3 yrs of exp, it would still keep my option of settin up a clinic open.. i may sound littl pessimistic but i cant avoid thinkin ths way..since i still ve opposition from my own family to change my field.. pls help.. anticipating ur reply.

  32. Hello Rahul Sir,

Heard about this website from a friend. I did my UG from UCMS,Delhi and nowdoing internship from GTB Hospital. I also heard that U r from same college. I want ur advise on same matter as everybody else.

Initially when I entered MBBS I was pretty sure of becoming a doctor, even when my internship started I was on same track but as i m doing my internship I m getting more diverted away from this field. Until now I was preparing for my PG entrance though not seriously. But now I have not been able to study becoz of this confusion.

All these odd hours of working, all this mental stress, getting humiliated from seniors(cant blame them its the stress of the field), working on holidays even gazetted ones, studying so hard, getting no respect (even the patients getting treated for free there thinks us to be their slaves), working in a dirty environment, fighting every month for duty rosters,.. are some of my reasons for this diversion

To whomsoever seniors I have talked are not satisfied with their jobs. According to them Earning mere 35,000 after approx 10 yr of study is not good enough for a SR. They say u will be blank again after 3 yr of PG as u r now, as what to do next.

But the problem with me is that i m a bit afraid to change to MBA as I don’t know anything about this field except that u get a good package. To be frank I want to do MBA just becoz i dont wanna do PG as I think it to be very stressful. This may be not a good reason enough but this is the only reason for me.

My parents are also not happy with this decision of mine going towards MBA as they always thought of me becoming a doctor, but they say do whatever u want but be sure of what u r doing.

I m not a very brilliant student as though….my marks are like Xth- 69% aggregate….Maths-88%, XIIth-74% aggregate….Maths-74% and then a 2 yr gap before getting into DPMT and then MBBS – 53% including supple in all4 subjects of 2nd Proff.
And I not sure of GDPI that how I would be performing in them….

Considering all the details I have given u…..
1…..Most imp question…Is it worth to take such a major shift of carrier
2….what chances do u think of me getting successful into CAT for which I am planning..
3….which is more tougher to get into CAT or PG entrance according to u?

Plz help me out sir….this post is as confused as I m now……..!!!!!!

Karan: Your annual package can range from Rs. 10 – 20 lakhs (am basing this on my experience with ISB). I’m not too sure that you can switch completely to a non-healthcare sector initially. That might take quite a lot of work.

Upendra: Your best bet right now is CAT/XAT.

Bindhu: 1. I spoke recently to an ISB Admissions manager. He was telling me that so many PG doctors are applying these days that they score over the MBBS/BDS guys. So I’m not too sure what chance you might have now.
    2. It might carry weight, especially if you do a job after that for atleast 1 or 2 years.

Bidyut: In my job I basically take care of all patient needs, mostly the non-medical ones. We are the first point of contact for the patient for all their queries, problems, etc. We also co-ordinate with all other departments for ensuring that the patient’s stay/visit happens smoothly. Discovery project management is basically managing the projects that lead to discovery of new molecules and compounds for drugs. Licensing is the co-ordination with the government agencies to get the drugs approved for selling.

Arabind: For XLRI you will need to give the XAT.

Dr Veenu: I don’t know about 5 institutes but I can list 3 – AIIMS, TISS and Apollo. FMS also offers a MBA in healthcare management (not MHA). IIM’s don’t offer MHA. For CAT I would suggest Career Launcher, IMS, etc. For GMAT, Kaplan or Princeton. The career options are listed above in my post. Any work experience is OK, it does not have to be as a hospital admin (AIIMS has different requirements, I think). “Thanks a jar”??? That’s the first time I’ve read that expression!

Rest of you will have to wait for a few more days… Will write soon I promise!

  45. I have completed BSC in Microbiology,Bio Chemistry,Zoology.
Please tell me if doing M.B.A in Hospital management is a good
    idea

Bindhu: 1. Work experience should have more weightage. But now for ISB, you might need both.
    2. Yes, it should.
    3. Either should be fine.

Dr A S: 1. If you feel that you can have a better career after an MBA it is a good shift.
    2. CAT is quite difficult… about as difficult as PG.
Trust me the stress and all is not going to go away after MBA. Pay might definitely be better but work-load and stress is going to be pretty much the same.

Dr. Khushbu: You should get the same status as MBBS. Work experience in a rehab centre is as good as corporate work experience. However, one year is too less. You need atleast 1 to 2 years more.

Sanjay: I’m not too sure whether that is going to make you ineligible. I would assume that you would have been denied admission to MBBS if there was such a big problem. But you should ask the Dean or someone in your medical college about the medical eligibility requirements.

Dr Monika: Internship is not considered as work experience by IIMs and ISB also does not consider it work experience any more. So you will need a little more experience…

Versha: Your profile sounds good and you seem to have enough work ex too. Just find out from ISB once whether your 2 years of DNB will be considered work ex or not.

Harshala: Yes physios should be given the same status as MBBS. The stream you want to pursue in MBA is your personal choice and you will be able to decide that after the first few terms of the MBA.

Rachit: First you need to decide which kind of company (pharma, hospital, etc.) you want to go to. Send your resumes there, meet the HR guys. If you have any contacts in those companies use them. You can also look for leads through job sites.

Rakesh: That’s something you need to decide for yourself. What exactly is your career plan and does an MBA help you achieve your goals? That should help you figure out whether an MBA is a good idea or not.

  47. Hi.. i am Abhishek i am doing my MBBS 4th year now from a chinese medical university.. i am very much interested in pursuing MBA after my MBBS programme rather than setting up a clinical practice .

Does ISB offer MBA in hospital management?
what is the scope of MBA in hospital management in India and overseas?
what is pay-scale for a MBA hospital management pass-out from ISB?
2 Years of work-ex is necessary for admission into ISB thats what i have understood from the above posts , but internship too is required?

i hope u consider my quest as a primary regard and reply back ASAP

    thanks

    ABHISHEK
