Kishore: If you want to get into non-healthcare companies please go in for an MBA not an MHA. However, let me tell you its going to be difficult to move out of healthcare related work even if you work for other companies. Please post your questions here itself and I will answer...

Bindhu: Yes, working as an assitant is counted as work experience. ISB assumes a certain degree of honesty from the applicants. Plus, you will need to get recommendations written from your employers, and ISB can make out whether they are fake or real. The interview will be another place where you might get caught if you do not have real work experience.

Ritesh: I think you just need to do well in ur MBA and then apply to whichever companies you can...

Abhishek: ISB does not offer an MBA in hospital management. An MBA in hospital management will have some good options ahead since there is a lot happening in the healthcare field. There's a lot of expansion going on and trained people will be required to handle all this. An MBA from ISB should get a minimum of Rs. 10 lakhs/year with an average of Rs. 15 lakhs/year. Internship is a requirement to get your MBBS degree. After the internship you also need at least 2 years of work experience to get into ISB.

Vashishta: I'm not a big fan of distance learning for MBA. I feel that studying in a regular course and interacting with your peers gives you a better education as far as MBA is concerned. An MD(pharma)+MBA should have a huge scope in the pharma industry.

<bSachin: PG is counted as work experience but internship is not. However, you should confirm with the admissions dept at ISB before applying.

Ramya: To get into a 2 year MBA (IIM, XLRI, Symbiosis, FMS, etc.) you will need to give an entrance test like CAT/XAT, etc. For ISB you will need 2 years work experience and a good score in the GMAT. The options open to you are given above in my post.

Sukhjinder: Again the options open to you are given above in my post. Pls go through those.

Bidyut: As far as practicing medicine is considered it is a complete shift. You can still work in a hospital or pharma company and be in the healthcare sector, but you might not get to practice medicine.

Pallavi: 1. I've not come across a General Manager - Medical Services yet. However, I assume it would be a role like a Medical Superintendent.
2. An MBA Finance can look after the accounting and finance departments of large hospitals/hospital chains and pharma companies.
3. Yes doctors with MBA can get such packages in corporate hospitals.
4. I look after all the non-medical services at the hospital. The departments that come under us include Front Office, Billing, Maintenance, F&B, Housekeeping, IT, etc. Essentially we are the first point of contact for the patient and co-ordinate most of the requirements of the patient while they are in the hospital.
5. Gujral is no longer with Apollo. However, his role was to find out new opportunities for Apollo and help set up new facilities.
6. I'm glad my blog is useful. Thanks!

Sara: I'm not sure what ICFAI's requirements are for entrance. You can visit their website or go meet them and they should be able to tell you how you can get admission there.

Dear Dr rahul
1. What does the job profile of General manager Medical service comprises of in corporate hospital?
2. What role can a doctor play with MBA finance in hospital and in Pharma?

3. My senior is into Equity Research with Credit Suisse ( investment banking) and as off shore associate earns about Rs 18-20 lakh fixed component. His analyst it seems is a John Hopkins MD doctor with his deputy being a PHD from MIT? That guy is supposed to be uno in bitech for 5 years in succession in Wall Streets!

Can doctors hope to get such package in corporate hospitals? ( i have over 11 years work experience including army experience. I will be completing an executive MBA ( general management) course from IIM-K so need some feed back from u as well ....u may email me at plabmate@sify.com)

4. Also what role does doctor actually play in Hospital Operations- the role u are playing ( i have read what u have posted cna u elaborate a bit further than that?

5. Dr Gujral I believe is VP projects with apollo Chennai. What do doctors do exactly in such role ?

6 Last but not the least A BIG thanks for Saving our soal in this wild wicked world of selfish medicine by showing us an alternative way of helping others!!!!
I Salute u and ur effort!
